Job Description

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as an integral member of the senior management team. As the COO, this team member will provide the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the organization has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow our mission and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. They will be responsible for developing, monitoring and evaluating overall corporate strategy with the CEO and other senior team members with an emphasis on generating operational support, working capital and enhancing mission delivery. This position will provide top level financial and operational insights to help formulate and execute strategic efforts.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for managing all hands-on operational aspects of the company. Directly partners with the CEO in the aggressive and successful growth of the organization and its mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management guidance which support the adopted mission and core values of the organization.
  • Responsible for driving the company to achieve and surpass fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for establishing internal and external processes and key performance indicators for the business and for their measurement and effectiveness.
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete updates to the CEO and Board of Directors regarding the operating condition of the company.
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
  • Collaborate with the senior management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the organization.
  • Ensure that the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures are in place to meet operational and financial targets.
  • Motivate and lead a high performance team; grow existing talent, attract, recruit and retain required personnel not currently in place, and provide mentoring as a cornerstone to a solid career development program.
  • Foster and maintain a team-oriented, results driven, rewarding, fun and accountable culture within the organization.
  • Represent the organization with corporate sponsors and business partners.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues and opportunities.
  • Direct short-term and long-range planning and budget development to support strategic business goals.
  • Assist in the protection of the organization by ensuring it is legally protected and by ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Proven track record of growing and managing successful teams and programs related to non-profit mission delivery and fundraising. Business degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in developing broad-scoped business relationships, managing and growing non-profit infrastructure, delivery systems, and supervision of staff.
  • Proven ability to develop, layout, and follow through on detailed business plans and programs • Working knowledge of assigned systems and client organization and practices
  • Strong interpersonal and adaptive leadership skills
  • Proven business and financial acumen
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to listen to others
  • Integrative and adaptive team working style, the ability to influence and motivate, easy interaction, rapid adaptation, and strong aptitude for fostering healthy team culture
  • Able to effectively interface with all levels of on-site and off-site employees, board members, volunteers and partners.
