Nashville, TN—More than 120 shooters—of all skill levels—took part in the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s (USA) popular shooting tour as it rolled through the Northwest for the 3rd Annual Puget Sound and the inaugural Portland Area Sporting Clays shoots on October 13 and 15.

Raising more than $30,000 to help support the USA’s nationwide conservation programs, the events brought together union members, contractors, family members and outdoor enthusiasts for a fun-filled day of outdoor recreation.

Drawing nearly 40 teams from across the Northwest, the team from IBEW Local 46 comprised of Shawn and Lori Kuhns, Jason Snodgrass and Greg Zavoyna took home the top prize for the Puget Sound shoot with a score of 330, while the team from Scott Wealth Management comprised of Casey Scott, Craig Rhea, Carl Zapffe and Dave Farley took home the top prize at the Portland Area shoot with a score of 333.

Taking top honors for individual shooters were Puget Sound shooter Greg Howe from Sunrise Dental with a score of 93 and Portland shooter Carl Zapffe from Scott Wealth Management with a score of 95.

“We’re excited about the continued growth of the Northwest portion of our shooting tour,” said USA Director of Events and Fundraising Nate Whiteman. “Not only did the events raise a significant amount of money to support our conservation mission, but it united union members from various communities for a great cause during a time when union solidarity is crucial to the labor movement.”

The Puget Sound shoot was hosted locally by the International Association of Machinists. Both events also garnered significant community support from nearly 20 sponsors throughout the Northwest.

In 2011, the USA will host 25 sporting clays and trap shoots in 17 states across the country—including Alaska, Nevada, Kansas, Missouri, Washington D.C. and more. With only four shoots left for the year, the USA’s shooting tour will wrap up in California on December 10.
