Nashville, TN—Nearly 60 shooters attended the 1st Annual IUPAT Northern Ohio Sporting Clays Shoot on July 21 at the Hill’n Dale Club in Medina, OH.
Sponsored by the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), the Northern Ohio Shoot raised $21,000 to help support the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s (USA) conservation mission. Garnering significant support from the community, the event boasted 11 teams comprised of union members, shooting enthusiasts, corporate partners and other guests from across the state.
For the first time in the history of the three year tour, the USA welcomed a team from the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA). Comprised of three youth shooters and one adult, the UWUA Local 666 team brought home top honors with a score of 326, and served as a prime example of how important mentoring a future generation of sportsmen and women is to the union community.
Dan Whidden from UA Local 42 took home top honors for an individual shooter while Sarah Coyne from the IUPAT International team won the women’s trophy. Gun raffle winners from the event included Doug Hinerman from UWUA Local 666, who won a Taurus pistol and Greg Golembiewski from IUPAT 505, who won a Mossberg Turkey Thug shotgun.
“We couldn’t be more pleased about how the Northern Ohio Shoot turned out,” said USA Executive Director Fred Myers. “Not only did IUPAT help us raise thousands of dollars to support our conservation mission, but they helped the USA unite union members from various communities around the state and connect them outside the workplace on a lifestyle level.”
The USA’s robust, 25-city sporting clays and trap shoot tour will travel to 17 states in 2012. Raising imperative funding to support the USA’s conservation mission, the national tour also introduces skilled union volunteers to the impact they can make on conservation projects in the communities where they live work and play.
