In 2020, everyone who volunteered for a USA Work Boots on the Ground project or event was entered in a drawing for a pair of Thorogood boots. The lucky winner was Phillip Hoffmaster, a member of Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ Local 592, who volunteered his time constructing reef balls to enhance critical fisheries habitat in Chesapeake Bay.
“As an apprentice, volunteering gave me a great opportunity to learn some skills working with concrete; Helping the environment was an added bonus,” Hoffmaster said. “I encourage other union members to volunteer because projects like these are rewarding and a great way to learn something new or brush up on skills you haven’t used in a while.”
Hoffmaster will put his new boots to work on the job. “I love Thorogood boots. They are so well made, and the comfort is beyond compare,” Hoffmaster said. “After an eight- or nine-hour day, my feet feel great.”
