Twenty-eight-year union bricklayer Matt Samford of Caldwell, Texas, heads to Oklahoma to put his shooting skills and stealth to the test as he combines his first helicopter coyote hunt with his first spring turkey hunt when the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s Brotherhood Outdoors airs on the Sportsman Channel the week of July 19.
Well-known on the job for taking apprentices under his wing, Samford becomes the apprentice hunter, learning the ropes to hunting flocked up Rio Grande turkey from his guide at The Outfit Oklahoma and USA’s Forrest Parker.
“You hear them on top of you, and suddenly, one pops up at 20-30 yards,” Samford said. “You’re scared to move, scared to breath—you don’t want to spook them. It was the most intense hunting I’ve ever experienced.”
Between morning turkey hunts, Samford heads to the air for his first population-control coyote hunt from a helicopter, which he describes as “the experience of a lifetime.”
Catch the excitement on the ground and in the air when Brotherhood Outdoors airs on the Sportsman Channel Tuesday, July 20 at 4 p.m. Eastern with re-airings on Friday at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at 1:30 a.m. and Sunday, July 25 at 11 a.m.
