This year’s 2014 USA Summer Giveaway, “Where in the World is the USA Logo?” really got the union community involved in showing their pride in brotherhood and in Union Sportsmen’s Alliance membership. For 10 weeks, from Memorial Day to August 2, entries consistently came in from 20 states, Canada and Italy showing that the USA logo was found this summer all over the world!
To vie for a top-spot in the competition and the hope of winning one of three great USA logo prize packages valued at nearly $500, USA members were asked to register on the USA website and request free USA logo stickers. Creativity was the name of the game with images submitted for an all-staff committee vote at the USA’s national headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, with the USA logo found on everything from motorcycles and steering wheels on boats, to fishing gear and… even freshly caught fish!
Social media kept the friendly completion going for the duration of the contest with interactive comments coming in from USA members casting their ‘votes’ and egging on participation by fellow members with comments like, “Nice catch,” “Beautiful scenery,” and “Awesome photo!”
Earning the First Place win with a bird’s-eye-view from atop Ladder 26 starting his day at the Detroit Fire Department, was Chris Daily, a member of IAFF Local 344 from Redford, Michigan. The creative shot shows the USA logo prominently displayed on his helmet with Chris perched high above the truck. His Grand Prize package, valued at roughly $250, included a gun cleaning kit, USA logo polo shirt, orange wool hunter hat and a 50th anniversary special edition Buck Knife.
The 2nd Prize win was Tom Mattingley’s photo on-the-job with his USA logo proudly displayed on his hardhat, ready to weld a 500,000 volt 4” Aluminum Round Bus in a New Jersey switch yard. Tom, a member of IBEW Local 351 and resident of Clayton, NJ, won a prize package valued at roughly $115 that included a USA logo Carhartt duck jacket, ball cap and “Best of Brotherhood Outdoors” DVD.
Taking home 3rd Prize was Jude Fleshman, a member of UA Local 189 from Grove City, Ohio. Jude’s picture of a ‘gone fishing’ display he created caught the eye of judges early on in the competition as one of the very first entries. Jude’s prize package, valued at roughly $95, included a USA logo fleece jacket, ball cap, and a 50th anniversary special edition Buck Knife.
Thanks to all who participated with us in the “Where in the World is the USA Logo?” contest and for helping us find out that our members are the best when it comes to showing their union pride and brotherhood in USA membership.
